Hello World!

Waking Up
Hello World! I am deciding to start this delicious adventure of Honey B Healthy the same way I start every day-with a tall glass of room temp, sour & spicy water.
Yes, pulling ideas from different cleanses and personal prefrence in addition to research on the healing properties of both, I start every day with TWO full 8oz glasses of water with a healthy squeeze of lemon a generous pinch of ground cayenne pepper.

H2Wonderful
I love water!! I love it and I am not ashamed. The only downside of my wonderful friendship is the frequent trips to the bathroom but by drinking no less than 2 liters of water (8 8oz glasses) everyday I keep my body awake, energized, balanced, and happy. Water is the most essential ingredient to living a full and healthy life and by starting everyday with two full glasses I am already well on my way to a day of healthful hydration. Please! Let's avoid plastic bottles as well. Everyone knows they are harmful to the environment but when reused, even in an effort to be eco-freindly, they could be leeching harmful toxins into your beautifully pure water! Also, be careful not to overdo it, which I know can seem hard, but the body can only absorb up to 1 liter every hour. Over-hydration can result in a dangerous electrolyte imbalance so 1 liter every 3 hours is a rule I like to follow on days I am extra generous with my hydration.

Feelin’ Hot
Whew! Its hard not to heat up a little just thinking about that tingle cayenne pepper leaves in the mouth. Cayenne is most often thought of as only a spicy seasoning, however the beautiful little red flecks have a variety of healing powers. Cayenne’s spicy heat comes from the compound capsaicin, which can often be found as an active ingredient in many natural arthritis and muscle pain creams and has often been accredidited with kicking an oncoming sniffle in the butt. Butt, even more exciting is it's success in raising basal metabolism a theory supported by numerous studies! This metabolic rev-up helps your body to burn more fat to be used for energy throughout the day, big perk for a little pepper!

Next to the Lemon Tree
Oh the beautiful lemony lemon. Thanks to my wonderful study abroad experience in South Africa, I will never be able to look at a lemon without transporting back to the beautiful house I shared with 5 super cool people on an adorable cobblestone road: next to the lemon tree.

While the thereputic properties of lemon are far reaching, they are most widely known for their high Vitamin C content and cleansing effect on the digestive system. Lemons are known to be antifungal, an antacid, antiseptic, and their citrusy acidity is just the ticket to revving up your digestive juices in the morning so you can truly get the most out of your breakfast. A hefty squeeze of lemon juice in a morning glass of warm water will aid in cleansing the digestive tract, strengthening the immune and circulatory systems, and serve as a liver tonic for those of us who may have been indulging in some delicious toxins….
Speaking of toxins-lemons are not only one of the most sprayed and contaminated foods but also one that many humans are drinking chemicals off each day. Because of their waxy skin they are quite difficult to clean and many restaurants that so nicely put a lemon wedge in your water don't even bother to try washing them. I try to buy my lemons organic but no matter the origin I always first wash the skin then just to be safe cut it off to the pulp (see above picture). You can save these skins to zest for adding a fresh citrus flavor to any dish.

Time to break the fast…
Ending your nightly fast with a nutritious meal is the best way to start everyday. Try to always incorporate some protein and in these summer months try to eat lively raw breakfasts that incorporate local seasonal fruits and other treasures. If you decide to try out my morning routine you may start yourself on a path toward a new healthy habit that will change the way you feel every day. Try and wait about 30 minutes after your last glass of H2O before your meal as this will give your tummy ample time to refuel it’s juices so your body is able to absorb the max amount of nutrients from your breaky!

I have had my morning water and its been about 25 minutes now so I am off to dig around in the fridge for some delish freshly picked berries and maybe a little chia pudding!
